Turning 30 Goodness

Ξ January 31st, 2008 | → 2 Comments | ∇ Uncategorized |

Let’s see…. I went to the Dr yesterday. She was pretty proud of how much weight I have lost to date and told me to keep up the good work. I went to Mom’s after and we had my Bday dinner, since Dad was actually home. It was a nice dinner even though I really was looking forward to going to the Med… but I won’t complain because I got a really sweet prezzie from them. A brand new 8G iPod Nano! I think it’s funny that my other one just died about a week ago, and tada I have a new player. I’m happy.

So this afternoon I pick up Phil at the airport. He’ll be visiting until Tuesday morning. I’m really looking forward to seeing him. It’s been far too long. I miss hearing his laugh in person and his wild hand gestures and body movements when he tells a story. It’s never the same over the phone. Jared arrives in town on Friday with Sylas. Very excited to see them as well. Vicki sadly has to work, however she will be up for 2 weeks at the end of February, so no worries we’ll put something together for her so she can see everyone.

It will be busy but fun weekend. I think I’m just glad I took Monday off.

Oh and in closing, Happy Not 5th Wedding Anniversary to Rique and I. *snicker* I have officially been divorced longer than I was married.

Frankly Scarlett, I don’t give a damn!

I’ve been such a slacker with the pictures. I’ve been taking some, but have taken very little time to do post work on them and post them. This week, between cleaning before Twitchaby gets here and the weekend I will do my best to get some new photos up. However the cleaning of my house is quite an adventure. As I am cleaning I realize how much JUNK I have collected. So I think in this batch of cleaning I will purge some stuff, however I think in a few weeks a big purge is coming. I will be sorting out clothes for *goodwill* and just trinkets that are of no good use. Debating between boxing it all up to be sold off in a yard sale in the spring or to just give it all to Romero House, Salvation Army, Community Living etc. Either way, it’s ALL going in the next few weeks.

Items that won’t make the cut with certainty are all the old gaming books Rique left behind. The WW ones I am keeping, however everything else is going, either given away, tossed in the trash or burned I don’t care. Just gone! As well there are loads of clothes! I honestly don’t know why I have so many things I haven’t worn in years (that now certainly wouldn’t fit) yet I still put them in a Rubbermaid container and keep them…. Pack Rat! Sheesh. Well they are going too.

I have also decided that I am going to move my computer desk into the living room. I am going to wait a few weeks to see if I get a new Puter chair for my Bday, if not then I’ll be buying one in February. I really don’t want to scratch up the floor in the living room so I’m going to hold off for the chair for that reason. I think it will be nice to be in a new spot and have my bedroom reserved for sleeping and maybe a bit of movie watching.

I am very happy to say that some things in my life are going really well. I love my job, some things in my personal life are curving on an interesting turn and I’m happy with them for the time being. It’s nice to know where you belong, even if in the now and the unknown of what could be is something exciting, as much as it is terrifying. Either way, today it brings a big dumb grin to my face.

On that warm and fuzzy note, I depart with the smell of Chili wafting through my halls and queuing up How I Met Your Mother Season 1.

Battling a cold and a Photoshoot

Ξ January 26th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Uncategorized |

I’ve been battling a cold all week. Woke up this morning and I think it’s at it’s worst, but I am going to try to make it through. Off to WW in a few moments. I am interested to see. I followed www.thedailyplate.com to a T all week. It says if I follow it as it states I will lose 2lbs a week. Let’s see if their system is remotely correct?

We had a photo shoot last night over here in my livingroom. Moved some stuff around and Chris took shots for his portfolio for school. Some of the shots turned out sharp. His main theme was Film Noir. I personally wasn’t feeling up to snuff, neither was Hilary but I think we managed.

I look forward to doing it again, perhaps on a Saturday instead of a Friday night.

This afternoon I am going to do some work around the house to get it ready for next weekend. Phil gets here on Thursday so it cuts my week short in getting the apartment ready for the party.

The weather looks good so far for Jared’s trip down on Friday. So excited to see my friends from far away! :)

On that note, I’m off. Likely more to update later, and some photos to upload.

Cheers

Cameras and adventure!

Ξ January 19th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Uncategorized |

I got a new to me film camera a few days ago from a good friend of mine. It’s a Canon EOS Rebel X I believe. All but the XTi lens fit on it. So I took it out yesterday got some new batteries and some B&W film! I plan on using it for some pics over the next few weeks and see how they shape up. Then go from there. I sort of know what I want to do with it, so we’ll see if I can pull it off.

Went to the Seadogs game last night. They beat the PEI Rocket 12 to 6. They surpassed their franchise record of goals. Not sure what the league record is. Either way, pretty kewl. Was a good game even though they kicked their asses. But with both goalies letting in that many goals neither of them had a good night.

Today it’s off to WW and to find something for the Diaper party. Then perhaps hitting the gym this afternoon.

This weekend is so scheduled, I really can’t wait til next weekend and some downtime as the following weekend will be equally as busy with Phil arriving on Thursday, Jared and Friday and Adam on Saturday. My harem is all in town for the big 30!

On that note, I must head off to see if eating right and lots of walking did anything for me this week. If it’s any consolation to me at all, my pants all feel a lot looser this week. Maybe I’ll finally get passed this little bump in the road.

As my purple pebble stares me down, I must go.

Live happy, laugh hard.

P.S. I love you and music

Ξ January 15th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Uncategorized |

First off I went to see P.S. I love you with a friend on Sunday. I was skeptical about how good it would be. Some reviews said as far as love stories go it was above and beyond The Notebook. Big fat no. It was a very good movie for what it was, however the delivery of the story was in no way the same.

Lisa Kudrow played an excellent *cougar* best friend. However between Gerard Butler (The male lead from 300) the male lead, the late and great Jerry and Jeffery Dean Morgan’s oh so steamy appearance it was worth the price of admission. I have fantasies of JDM sitting on that stage and singing to me in all his charming, rugged and handsome glory. *swoon*

So good movie. If anything it reminds us to live it to the fullest and not to get so wrapped up in the past that we miss the future.

Outside of that I am completely addicted to the Juno soundtrack. Yes I know I am repeating for about the 10th time but it is just so damn good.

How can I resist lyrics like this?

You’re a part time lover and a full time friend

The monkey on you’re back is the latest trend

I don’t see what anyone can see, in anyone else

But you

I kiss you on the brain in the shadow of a train

I kiss you all starry eyed, my body’s swinging from side to side

I don’t see what anyone can see, in anyone else

But you

Here is the church and here is the steeple

We sure are cute for two ugly people

I don’t see what anyone can see, in anyone else

But you

The pebbles forgive me, the trees forgive me

So why can’t, you forgive me?

I don’t see what anyone can see, in anyone else

But you

I will find my nitch in your car

With my mp3 DVD rumple-packed guitar

I don’t see what anyone can see, in anyone else

But you

Up up down down left right left right B A start

Just because we use cheats doesn’t mean we’re not smart

I don’t see what anyone can see, in anyone else

But you

You are always trying to keep it real

I’m in love with how you feel

I don’t see what anyone can see, in anyone else

But you

We both have shiny happy fits of rage

You want more fans, I want more stage

I don’t see what anyone can see, in anyone else

But you

Movies, music and food?

Ξ January 12th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Uncategorized |

So over the past few weeks I have seen a few movies both in the theatre and rental. Mind you in the theatre all I have seen as of late were Juno and National Treasure. National Treasure was typical popcorn fair. The modern day Indiana Jones. Nick Cage found his niche. He fit perfectly in the role of bumbling history geek, gone treasure hunter. Helen Mirren was a nice addition to the cast as his Mom. Overall, good movie. Was just as exciting and captivating as the first. If you like that style I recommend it.

As for the take home variety of movies. I have seen The Holiday with Jude Law, Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet and Jack Black. Again a great feel good chick flick. Mind you, I honestly think most guys would sit down and watch it with you if asked. It’s not over the top chick flick. ;-)

Eastern Promises with Viggo…. mmm and Naomi Watts. Somewhat based on facts surrounding the Russian Mafia in London. Viggo gave a stunning performance, including his ballsy (pardon the pun) naked knife fight in the bath house. Brave and riveting.

I Know Who Killed Me with Lindsay Lohan. Not quite as bad as I thought it would be? At the beginning I had it all figured out, turned out I didn’t at all. The ending was a bit rewarding to discover that there was this creepy unexplained connection between two characters. Her acting wasn’t horrible. But I raise the question, why was she the only stripper in the whole night club who never took her top off???

I keep thinking there is yet another movie I have watched but if I have it currently escapes me. Tomorrow I plan on going to see P.S I love you. I will bring tissue in case it’s needed. I’ve heard some awesome reviews, and how can I not go see it when it has Jeffrey Dean Morgan ( The Dad from Supernatural, and Denny from Greys Anatomy) as well as James Marsters (Spike from Buffy, Milton Fine from Smallville)! I just can’t resist.

Review to follow.

On that note, off to see if my tummy flu this week caused a loss or a gain…

*UPDATE*

Loss. :-)

Something fun and positive!

Ξ January 10th, 2008 | → 1 Comments | ∇ Uncategorized |

I saw this and thought it was fun and positive so I’m going to fill it out on my Blog… I don’t tend to put Memes here, but this one is kewl.

Looking Back at 2007

1) Where did you begin 2007?
In Greg’s livingroom surrounded by friends. The next day we all got the flu…

2) What was your status by Valentine’s Day?
Had a few health concerns, was on leave from work.

3) Were you working?
See the answer to #2
4) Did you get any piercings or tattoos?
No, but I started to make plans for my next one.
5) Did you have to go to the hospital?
Yes. More times than I could possibly count.
6) Did you have any encounters with the police?
Why yes yes I did. Several. For some reason people liked hitting my car when I wasn’t in it during 2007.
7) Where did you go on holiday?
Florida in October, Halifax in April, May and September.
8) What did you purchase that was over $1000?
Sinatra, my Canon Digital Rebel, XTi
9) Did you know anybody who got married?
Greg and Chris and Jared and Vicki

10) Did you know anybody who passed away?
Yes. They will be remembered.
11) Did you move anywhere?
Nope, I stuck it out on Orange St in my drafty Heritage Building.
12) What concerts/shows did you go to?
Circle du Soleil, NHL Exhibition Game in Hali, BNL
13) Are you registered to vote?
Yes
15) Where do you live now?
Uptown
16) Describe your birthday?
Had a Murder Mystery for Greg’s Bday as well as my own, also had a little party on my Bday. It was nice, but not nearly as many people as I would have liked were there. However it good time was had by all.

17) What’s one thing you thought you’d never do but did in 2007?
Lost just under 40lbs

18) What has been your favorite moment?
All time favorite was screaming with Greg, Chris, Jenn D, Matt and Marilyn on a ride at Disney! Aside from that I have one other, but I’ll keep it to myself.
19) What lessons did you learn?
Grief doesn’t disappear. It changes into something else that gives you strength in other parts of your life. You learn quickly in times of need who your real friends are. Years of friendship hold no value to some. For those who opt to take the good with the bad, the rewards are always great. The sweet is never as sweet without the sour.

20) Any new additions to your family?
No
21) What was your best month?
October and December were both pretty great.
22) What music will you remember 2007 by?
Anything by Wintersleep or Retro Rock bands like Styx
23) Made new friends?
Yes, a few. :-)

24) New best friend?
I don’t like calling people best friends. But I made a new close friend. I’m quite fond of her.
25) Favorite Night out?
Oh that’s a hard one. One evening we were out at Disney was pretty great. Another night I was out at the beach during the summer was pretty good too… I’d also have to put my Red Wine date here. It was just a really great night.
26) What do you expect in 2008?
The year of change. I will achieve my weight/size goal this year. I will do everything I can to be sure that when my contract is up at CRA they keep me. It’s something I believe is within my control. I will not settle, I am going to make 2008 about me and finally finding my happiness. I can only encourage everyone else to do just that. I plan on living, and loving every moment of it. For the first time in a very long time, I’m close to being the woman I remember long before I lost my independence when I got married. It’s nice, and I am going to revel in it!

The Wagon.

I commend those people who struggle with weight loss and fitness. I firmly believe it isn’t easy for anyone. I was certain I’d survive the Holiday season, which I did. However I found myself not tracking, which in itself isn’t surviving. I learned months ago that if I am going to lose, I need to track. Period. It is a fact of losing weight and maintaining, for life.

So now that I am tracking again, going to the gym regularly, I feel great. I feel balanced. Life is good. This holiday season showed me that when one thing gets off routine the rest quickly follow and all I can do now is learn from that experience and be prepared for the next time routine might have a glitch and how to survive.

So as of the new year, I am done counting pounds as a total. Well to my friends anyhow, unless I achieve the big goals, like 50, 70 and goal. :)

I’m measuring inches now, because in all honesty, that’s what matters more to me than what the scale says. I’ll still keep track of my pounds on my little ticker, but I’m not making that my focus. Getting caught up in that does make it feel like a race, and it’s not a race, it’s a journey that will never really end. When I get to goal I don’t want to be watching the scale so closely that I go insane. That’s how I had been feeling before the holidays. So I needed to turn focus to how I feel, and how my clothes fit.

I feel better for it.

On a totally ironic note, I can’t wait til the New Years Resolution people start clearing out of the gym…. it’s insanely packed!

~For the love of food.
